I have to say that as chaotic as people might think the election cycle is here, it’s pretty tame in comparison to a lot of the countries you describe. No worries about corruption and many of the candidates have actually done some prison time so no worries here. We’re right in step with the rest of the world. Western values and all. In reality Russia might turn out in reality to have the most fair and honest elections of this whole cycle.

Russia's election was a demonstration in "democracy" no country that describes itself as "democratic" can match. That's because America's second biggest export is the production of elections. No actual democracy desired much less needed. They do all the pretending required to rubber stamp it when done. Because process doesn't really matter - they provide all of the candidates! Just like back home...

I was almost about to believe the Senegal fairy tale - rushed up election, rags to riches, Cinderella man, and all the pomp and circumstance. Thankfully that USIP article clarified everything!

This is (or should be) an autopilot operation for them. But we rumbled all of that so that they had to start adding variations to try to conceal the purchase of nearly every government in the world. And then some countries actually broke free!

So their controls became even that much more evident. We can see what the plans are. And that makes beating them at their own games possible. By eventually quitting playing their games. Probably currency first; but elections are on the short list!

You’re going to have to to give a prognosis of the upcoming American elections. Maybe an early look then something around September. I’d be really interested in your views.

I might have already done the first one if I knew what views I have! It's a total toss up on even making it to election day without a disaster declaration "interfering" with the schedule.

There's a relatively big conspiracy train of thought that 2020 elections were "fake" or "produced" and that Biden is not, nor ever has been anything more than an actor playing a TV show version of a President. I don't really have any kind of genuine refutation or confirmation on that. It's perfect either way as an awakening mechanism, but does seem very dangerous if his "Presidency" is genuine. Which is the best rationale for it being a theatrical production. And that has been true for countless other major scenes, too.

Anyway, getting exercised now in all the political back and forth for an election with even odds on never happening, seems premature. And perhaps as useful as all the hype in front of the "Eclipse" of the ages.

Closer in - conventions are good for laughs - if it isn't already on the bargain basement shelf, I promise to take a look. Too many other rabbits to hunt at present.

In the meantime, there are dozens of pundits that postulate on Trump's every word and gesture. Decode every Melania outfit and create Barron watching opportunities. I never could get into all that, myself. It probably does have symbolic purpose; most of our staging and drama does. But the narratives are just more narrow in domestic affairs. I found myself being frustrated often and feeling like I was missing out by focusing so intently on American politics. But it is definitely on when the narratives swing back that way.

Or if not politics exactly, narratives on other scenarios - like a new pandemic that could start in the US this time. Or alien sightings. Or freedom crushing antics of the worst Congress/Administration combo ever. Or market implosions. There will be no shortage of topics of domestic origin. Trump will be making a bigger splash and impact in those inevitable eventualities.

This movie is about to go hyperbolic on every front. These past months will seem like a vacation in retrospect.

Yay, South Africa made Karen News :)

Just needs one addition: Court has ruled that ex_president Zuma is eligible.

I must have missed that one. Looked through this morning (my time) on most sources. I can issue an update or put it in my next post on the subject. It doesn't happen often crossing the news cycle. But occasionally. Thanks for that update!

I don't really have a great sense of how much impact a new party even headed (and headlined, now!) by a former ruling party president would get. But possibly enough to be a majority spoiler.

I'm wondering if that's not a dose of medicine a lot of countries need! Cooperation and consensus. Perhaps consider listening to constituents rather than in political pundit echo chambers.

It's a BIG DEAL. Changes the election, and possibly the political make-up of the country, more than anything since 1994. Zuma ensures the ANC doesn't have a majority, which is why foreign funded NGOs, pollsters and media are trying to create the possibility of the opposition 'liberal' party uniting with the 'progressive communists' of the ANC i.e., how the corporates hope to keep control of the country, similar to what they did with De Klerk and Mandela. The bizarre situation is that Zuma is head of MK but still has ANC membership, and they've so far been too scared to discipline him lest they lose more Zulu voters, and in case they have to make a deal with the 81-year-old. Zuma, despite all the criticism he deserves and doesn't, is fucking street smart. Expect a big push for land transfer to the poor.

The rise of EFF coupled with the formation of MK is classic incremental majority implosion. I haven't followed closely the Zulu shift specifically but knew it was a big factor in that goal. Shameful, in a way, that in 2024 such a transparent maneuver can still be so successful. I know there's no such thing as perfect in politics; but does it really have to still be such a chess match of psychological warfare? It literally makes me ill.

It's partly responsible for why I haven't yet done much on the US election. Just too nauseating most days. It's like watching American football with rugby rules for one team for the first half. Then a hybrid of baseball and golf mixed in for the second. 15 months of pure mental torture. There used to be a veneer (at least) of some kind of decorum; now there's just raw power and no effective rules.

And our property transfers will all be in the opposite direction. The rich getting richer - at least in power. This year will be the penultimate in power generation but then dollar destruction, too. They'll have to choose. But probably won't be able to since it will short out their reptile brains. 😵👾

The EFF and MK are ANC offshoots so if they combined, they would be strong (so long as they could contain the infighting which would need a common enemy). Together, the would more obviously turn the country to the East.

The EFF and MK are seen as more radical but they're more like the original ANC. The current rulers of the ANC are aligned with BEE millionaires and billionaires who are seemingly aligned with the same people who influenced apartheid politicians.

If all the energy put into one Superbowl was spread out over one year into community service or political education, the USA would stronger and happier.

That's true everywhere. Politics is just another bloodsport in the mix. By achieving that degradation it can be completely seasonal in nature instead of the everyday working it pretends to be. It's all theater - entertainment, bread and circuses.

That we feel compelled to expend so much energy on elections is a sign of how devolved we have been willing to become. I hope this year shows how critically mistaken that decision has been all along. Even if it's by a force of nature event. Our solar eclipse got overexposed, but the hype and buildup exactly mirror a typical election cycle - loud and long drumming and whistles followed by an expected relief of what we actually bought versus what we thought we ordered.

Lather, rinse, repeat. It's shameful that humans not only participate in this humiliation ritual but pay top dollar/pound/euro/rand for it repeatedly. Cycles don't break themselves; but 2024 will be a cycle breaking experience. It's written in the stars this time; so we can't just turn over and go back to sleep like every other time. These corruption riddled elections are a prime way we see and feel our way out of the Matrix we inhabit.

Because "We're Not Gonna Take It" anymore. 🎶🎵

One of the most interesting elections for me will be.the Mexican elections. Will the Cartels see the new Pesident as weak? Or will the new President work more in the Cartels favor?

Definitely 2014 (I mean 2024 ) is urning out to be a fun year.

Assuming you mean 2024. It's all interesting. Nothing - absolutely nothing - is what you'd call "normal." That's by design. So that people are shifted off of their usual tracks. No omelettes without cracked eggs.

Mexico has to be on a bottom ten list at least for a female Jewish presidential candidate. I don't really have a line on her; just those optics have raised the flag pretty high. But anyone following AMLO would need to be a character. Maybe she will redeem Judaism as a chosen life option somewhere down the line. It could sure use some better press lately. I keep telling myself that Mexicans wouldn't just vote for party politics - but then I remember all the elections are fixed (first with fake opinion polls so you accept the manufactured results). 2024 will be a riot, I'm sure.
